The Law of Dissonance states that people will naturally act in a manner that is consistent with their cognition and commitments. The Law of Dissonance displays a void within the audiences' subconscious that causes the receiver to feel guilt and hypocrisy. It challenges people to reflect on the values that they hold true, associates a persuasive element with these values, and then preys on the idea that if the individual were to contradict themselves they would compromise that which they truly stand for. A perfect example of the law of dissonance was within the "Pink Shirt Kissing Prank" that Stuart Edge and his channel did for YouTube. Secondly, major US political parties draft huge legions of donors by using this tactic. Lastly, the law of dissonance comes during our least favorite TV commercials, the ones using the sad looking cats and dogs. You know the one I'm talking about. There's a sad piano tone in the background and helpless looking animals fade in and out of the shot. After your heart has basically fallen out on the floor a kindhearted female voice asks for your help in order to save these animals lives. Please, reach into your wallet and retrieve your credit card so that you may give us your money. Save a life
The Law Of Dissonance may remind us of how truly hypocritical we really are, or it may challenge us to live better lives. Whatever the outcome of the law, I know that I'll always weigh my options heavily instead of simply opening up my wallet. A thorough execution of this law, with the right timing, will no doubt succeed in gaining my respect as well as my money.
